The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires that debt collectors treat you fairly, right? Well, sort of. The problem is creditors and their collection agents continue to devise clever ways to skirt the FDCPA to harass and intimidate their debtors. I believe the laws in place are marginal efforts by politicians to appease their constituents without alienating the powerful creditors. With the economy in shambles, we will continue to see a rise in debt collection abuses by creditors and their collection agents. I believe that more needs to be done to protect people from abuse.
